-
- The prices didn't change because a price point was already established. Also
- games on CDROM involve more data to be gathered in areas such as graphics and
- sound (talking about good games) which is a additional cost.

-
- Sure, you should be able to hook up a Zip drive or any other kind of neat thing
- that comes along. A bargain basement scsi chip on the motherboard would solve
- that problem.
-
- : That's what I envision ultimately: a system that comes with a Zip as
- : minimum (low end), Zip+CDROM (low to medium), Zip+HD+CDROM (medium to
- : high). All machines of course have a standard floppy connector, but the

-
- I only use the floppy for games and backing up parts of my hard drive that I
- can't reinstall. The games can go hang, they are like chewing gum anyway, you
- can only play them so long. Depending on the speed of Zip drives I might think
- they could replace a HD but that only helps me as long as Zip drives are being
- produced and the carts are still being made.
-
- Hard drives are more standard and likely to be around in one form or another
- for some time to come, I would advise AT to stick with them. Zips could
- disappear tomorrow. A removeable writable medium is a requirement that must be
- met but I could live with it being external I don't make use of it all that
- much with a hard drive. A CDROM for games and software distribution wouldn't
- be all that bad for me and I could use it to play music CDs and peruse generic
- CDROMS with graphics and sound on them.
-
- : I agree that it's an issue, but worth consideration. The Zip is a good
- : alternative. (The DynoMO, BTW, is $450 for just the drive - unreasonable
-
- Sure, and an external scsi port would take care of that fine, there is no need
- to put it inside the machine. Nobody is arguing that zips aren't great, just
- where they belong internal or external.
-
- : : significant factor for distributors, yes. From a consumer's point of
- : : view, I agree, a bundled Zip would definately be the way to go. The
- : : question is whether the game companies would go for it.
-
- : Punch them all in the nose if they don't.
-
- Heh! :)
